Ellis Releasing

Ellis Releasing is one of Canada's primary independent television distributors, with over four decades of service to broadcasters and producers in Canada and around the world.

We place thousands of hours of the best of international television on Canadian screens. The company's current roster of international program suppliers features CTVC and France Television, among others. Program genres for our imported releases include movie, drama, comedy, documentary, lifestyle and children's programming from U.S., France, and the U.K.

In the export marketplace, Ellis Releasing specializes in non-fiction entertainment, and handles over 1,000 hours of programming for its subsidiary, Ellis Vision, and Canadian independents such as TeleFactory, Channel M, Good Earth Ventures Inc., Knowledge Network, Generator Films and VisionTV International.

Founded as Ralph C. Ellis Enterprises Limited in 1964 by current chairman, Ralph C. Ellis, C.M., O.Ont., the company has specialized, since its inception in Canadian distribution of network programming from international producers, and worldwide sales of Canadian independent productions, including the output of its own subsidiary, Ellis Vision.

Ellis Releasing chief executive Stephen Ellis has overseen distribution operations since 1986. He has also spearheaded a number of industry initiatives to generate income for producers from the unauthorized distribution of programming, including cable retransmission (as chairman of the Canadian Retransmission Collective) and off-air taping by schools (as a delegate to the board of the Educational Rights Collective of Canada).
