Ellis Vision

Ellis Vision is one of Canada's foremost independent producers, with an award-winning record of 40 years producing for international television. We are responsible for developing and producing high quality non-fiction and documentary programming that spans several genres, including wildlife, science and kids. Our long-term strength in natural history has effectively made Ellis Vision an ambassador of Canada's wildlife and nature to the world.

We typically produce 20 hours of factual entertainment each year, and are currently working on:

The Baby Human II, a sequel series to the Gemini-nominated science three-parter for Discovery Health U.S. and Canada, which reveals fascinating new discoveries in infant behaviour;

Leave It to the Real Beavers, an intimate portrait of beaver family life, with some surprising parallels to that of humans, to air on Animal Planet in the U.S. and Canada; and

A series of six wildlife specials exploring in each hour subjects such as Animal Superheroes and Scorpions.

The backbone of the Ellis Vision catalogue is its long-running Profiles of Nature series, comprised of 104 original half hour episodes and 78 one hour specials. This award-winning series has been broadcast in over 100 countries and has aired extensively on Discovery Channel and Animal Planet in Canada, the U.S. and internationally.

The Ellis Vision library ranges from heartwarming documentaries like the one hour tribute to the loon, Echoes of the North, to the entertaining top ten series Beastly Countdown, ranking the planet's ugliest to laziest creatures; from the gripping three-part study Bear Attack to informative children's programming such as Mother Nature (28 half hours). The company currently has over 300 hours of programming in distribution through Ellis Entertainment's distribution arm, Ellis Releasing.

Ralph C. Ellis, C.M., O.Ont., founded what was originally KEG Productions Limited in 1964, and presided over its operations for 35, continuing as chairman since 1998.

Current Ellis Vision president Stephen Ellis has served as executive producer for the company's output since 1988. He is also a past chair of the Canadian Film & Television Production Association (2000-2002).
